We are a group of professionals who were born and grew up in East Oxford. Though many of us have moved away, we still have strong connections to the area we call home. A number of us were involved in the last Youth Club which ran in East Oxford. We actually attended the same club when we were growing up and appreciate the support this offered us as young people growing up in the area. We have now come together to restart this long overdue service to the youth of East Oxford.
Our Identity & Mission
To provide the young people of East Oxford with a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment that fosters personal growth, community connection, and resilience—led by those who once walked in their shoes.
Our Core Values:
- Heritage: Honoring the history and diversity of this amazing area.
- Lived Experience: Leveraging the insights of professionals who grew up in the area.
- Empowerment: Giving young people a voice in how the club is run.
- Inclusivity: Ensuring every young person in our diverse community feels welcome.
The Program Model
To differentiate the club and provide high-value support, we propose a “Three-Pillar” model:
- Recreational (The “Hook”): Sports, gaming, involvement in community projects and a social space.
- Developmental: Mentorship sessions led by a group of professionals (career talks, life skills, emotional intelligence).
- Community-Led: A “Youth Council” that decides on activities and club rules.
The Need
East Oxford has seen a significant decline in dedicated youth provision over the last decade. While the area is vibrant and diverse, young people face increasing challenges regarding social isolation, limited safe spaces, and the “attainment gap.”
Our Solution
We are not just service providers; we are products of this community. We are a group of professionals—lawyers, teachers, tradespeople, and creatives—who grew up in East Oxford and attended the previous youth club. We know the impact a dedicated mentor can have because we lived it.
